To respect the gardens and tour guests ticket sales are limited to 1000.  

Tickets will be honored on either day, June 13, 5-8pm or June 14, 3-8pm and are intended for single use.

Tickets  can be used either Friday or Saturday by one person.  Tickets are sold online, at local retailers, and the day of the event until while supplies last.  Tickets are limited to 1000.

Your map/brochure required for entry into the gardens will be available at Will Call. Please provide the name on this order and have the email or paper order confirmation.

General Terms

The 36th Pocket Gardens of Portsmouth Tour is a rain or shine event. 

(Often the best time to tour the gardens is in a light rain.)

The map/brochure gives access to the tour for one person and can be used on either day of the tour.

Refund Policy

Refunds are offered only in the situation of full cancellation of the event.  

Cancellation Policy

This is a rain or shine tour.  We will cancel only if unsafe conditions occur on both days.

Come tour private and museum gardens in the historic district or Portsmouth. 

Friday, June 13,  5 - 8pm 

or

Saturday, June 14,  3 - 8pm

Please note the different hours on Saturday as we share Saturday with Market Square Day.

Event Details

This year's Pocket Garden Tour takes you into the heart of Portsmouth history. You will see historic gardens that bring past needs and sensibilities to life, and also the gardens of modern day settlers in Portsmouth's historic center. 

The self-guided tour includes seven private gardens graciously shared with us by their homeowners.  In addition, enjoy four historic gardens connected to museum homes.

Along the route you will find musicians, artists, and refreshments.  The route takes you past several commercial gardens making for a day full of gardens. 

And stop by South Church to meet:

  • Jill Nooney, creator of Bedrock Gardens,  with her newly released book, Bedrock: The Making of a Public Garden.  
  • John Forti, executive director of Bedrock Gardens in Lee, NH and author of The Heirloom Gardener:  Traditional Plants and Skills of the Modern World.
